Palm Beach Gardens, Fl. Oct 27 BallenIsles Country Club’s state-of-the-art Sports Complex was the scene of spectacular tennis action Oct. 22-26, in the USTA National Women’s 40 and 50 Clay Court Championships.

Fifty-four top ranked women players from all over the United States participated in very competitive singles and doubles matches over 5 days at the Club.

“This is one of the strongest events of its kind in the nation and it gives the BallenIsles members and their guests a chance to really watch great doubles players and learn from their positioning, shot selection and strategies,” said Trish Faulkner, BallenIsles Director of Tennis and the Tournament Director. In the Finals on Sunday, the seeds prevailed as Patricia Zerdan, #1 seed from Addison TX took the Gold Ball in the 40 singles against Simona Bruetting the #2 seed from Highlands Ranch, Colorado 6-2,6-0. While in the 50, singles Favorite and #1 seed Fran Chandler from Jackson, Tennessee played a great match to beat out a tough opponent, Shelly Works, the #2 seed from San Antonio TX, 6-4, 6-3.

Zerdan also won the doubles Gold Ball by taking the 40 doubles title in a hotly contested match with her partner Leeza Morris against local player Vesna McKenna from Hollywood, Florida and her partner Simona Bruetting from Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Zerdan and Morris saved three match points in the second set and won the three-set battle 7-5 in the third. In the 50 doubles Final, Works teamed with Mariana Hollman from Walkertown, NC, prevailing over first time finalists, the unseeded team of Cheryl Keller and Susan Kirby from Jacksonville, Florida 7-5, 6-2 to take the title and doubles Gold Ball.
