PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., Aug. 7, 2012 – BallenIsles Country Club’s legendary East Course was the scene of fond memories at the weekend as Jack Nicklaus returned to the course where he won the PGA Championship, to watch his son compete during the final day of the 37th Palm Beach Kennel Club County Amateur Championship.

“Few country clubs offer golfers such an historic connection to golf and we were deeply honored to have Jack back with us again to watch his son play the very same course,” said BallenIsles Director of Golf Brian Kelley.

The tournament which was hosted August 3rd-5th at BallenIsles – East and at Old Trail-Fazio, saw Austin Powell shoot rounds of 68 at Old Trail and 70-69 at BallenIsles, for a 207 total to win the Amateur Championship.

Powell eagled the 17th hole and saved par on the final hole to win by one shot over Gary Nicklaus (69-69-70) and Matt Ceravolo (68-66-74).

On the final hole both Nicklaus and Ceravolo just missed their birdie putts for the tie. Bryan Haase finished fourth at 67-73-70–210 and RJ Nakashian was fifth at 73-71-67–211, according to a report from the Palm Beach County Golf Association.

Powell also received the Publinks Award, which recognizes the top public golfer in the field.
