The “Mars vs. Venus Celebrity Tennis Exhibition” pitted the Women’s team of Venus Williams, Caroline Wozniacki, Brenda Schultz McCarthy and three other WTA circuit players, including Kacey Moore, ranked in Florida 14s and WTA tour player Jaine Scheepens against a formidable Men’s team.

Co-captained by Palm Beach County Deputy Sheriff Ira Peskowitz and Dick Stockton, formerly #8 in the ATP world rankings, the Men’s team included BallenIsles Head of Tennis Operations Frank Swope, Gaston Murray, nationally ranked boys 18, Vince Baudat, ATP players Coach and Ricardo Acuna, winner of 3 doubles titles during his pro career.
The exhibition followed a Team tennis format with cumulative scoring and substitutions allowed after 8 points in any match. The complimentary event to Members and their guests allowed for voluntary donations to benefit the Kids & Police Tennis Association (KAPTA) and the Police Athletic League (PAL). High donors of $100 or more had the opportunity to play four points with Venus and Wozniacki after the exhibition with a maximum of 16 spots available.
“I’m looking forward to playing in an event that will entertain BallenIsles members and benefit such a worthy cause,” Venus said before the start of the event.
“This was another spectacular event on the stadium court and great fun for spectators and players alike,” said BallenIsles General Manager Derrick Barnett. KAPTA is a Palm Beach County Police Athletic League (PAL) Program, founded by Peskowitz, and uses tennis to establish an encouraging environment for children who might otherwise be exposed to crime. The highly valued tennis program at BallenIsles continues to attract a Who’s Who of former and current Grand Slam champions including Venus and Serena Williams, Virginia Wade, Stan Smith, Fred Stolle, Mats Wilander, Brenda Schultz-McCarthy, Mikael Pernfors, Jimmy Arias, Aaron Krickstein, Van Winitsky, Gigi Fernandez and Alina Jidkova.
