Palm Beach Gardens, Fl. Jan 24 –The Finals of Les Grandes Dames, an international tournament that exemplifies a legacy for the sport of tennis, were held last weekend at BallenIsles.

120 players, many of whom are national senior women title holders and world champions, competed in the event which opened on Wednesday January 15, for five days of exciting matches in age groups from thirty to eighty years old. BallenIsles members and their guests were treated to some classic singles and doubles play. In the singles divisions all #1 seeds pulled through.

Sybile Fleurian, two former WTA tour players from France, now living in Florida, won the 40 doubles in a great match over Trish Riddell and Vincenza Massaro. In the 50 doubles – Fran Chandler and Sue Webb # 1 seeds defeated Sally Kellogg and Gail Warden, which gave Chandler, singles and doubles victories. In the 60 doubles, Trish Faulkner, BallenIsles Director of Tennis and her partner Charleen Hillebrand went the distance but lost in three sets to #3 seeds Lilian Peltz-Petow and Jan Kirkland-Cochran. In the 70 doubles #2 seeds Lee Delfausse and Jane Pang pulled out the final over Ann Hunt and Sheila Weinstock, the #1 seeds.The 80 doubles final saw Rosemarie Asch and Mary Ann Plante defeat Diane Hoffman and Jane Lutz. Asch joined Fran Chandler in taking both singles and doubles in their respective age divisions.
